Meet The New Leadership Team For Classics Eagles SC

As we continue preparing for an exciting 2026-2027 season, we want to share an important leadership update and provide a look into the future of Classics Eagles Soccer Club.

First, Phillip Wischmeyer has made the decision to resign from the club to focus on personal matters. We are grateful for Phillip's commitment, passion, and service over the past several months and sincerely thank him for the positive impact he has made within our community. On behalf of everyone at Classics Eagles, we wish Phillip and his family all the best in this next chapter.

While leadership transitions can create change, they also present opportunities to build for the future. Over the past week, our leadership team has been evaluating how we can best position Classics Eagles to continue providing an exceptional experience for every player and family. We believe that future success is built through collaboration, shared expertise, and investing in people.

With that vision in mind, we are excited to introduce a new shared leadership model between Classics Eagles Soccer Club and Columbus Force Soccer Club. Rather than relying on a single individual, this structure brings together a team of experienced leaders who will work collectively to support our players, coaches, and families.

This approach is a natural fit because both Classics Eagles and Columbus Force Soccer Club are part of the TOCA Soccer family, which also owns and operates the TOCA Columbus Indoor Sports Center. By aligning leadership across our clubs, we can better leverage the collective experience of our staff, share resources and best practices, improve operational efficiency, and ultimately deliver an even stronger experience for our athletes and families. This collaboration allows each club to maintain its unique identity while benefiting from the strength of a larger, unified organization committed to long-term excellence.

This collaborative leadership model allows us to:

Expand coaching leadership and mentorship across all age groups.
Share proven training methodologies and best practices between clubs.
Improve operational efficiency and communication.
Provide greater continuity and support for coaches and families.
Create additional opportunities for player development while preserving the identity and traditions of Classics Eagles

We are pleased to announce the following leadership team for the upcoming season:

In addition to our program directors, we are making an even greater investment in player development through specialized club-wide programming.

Mario Suarez will oversee all in-season technical training, integrating athletic development into our curriculum to help players become more technically proficient, confident, and athletic throughout the season. (E: Msuarez@tocafootball.com )

Nolan Brooks will continue leading our Goalkeeper Development Program, providing dedicated training and mentorship for goalkeepers across every age group. (E: brooksmn200@gmail.com )

Our commitment remains unchanged: to provide a positive, challenging, and player-centered environment where every athlete can grow, compete, and enjoy the game. This new leadership structure strengthens that commitment by bringing together an outstanding group of coaches who are united by one common goal—helping every player reach their full potential.

We are incredibly excited about what lies ahead. Together, we will continue building a club culture rooted in excellence, character, development, and community. By embracing a shared vision across the TOCA Soccer family of clubs, we are creating greater opportunities for our players, enhanced support for our coaches, and a stronger foundation for sustained success for years to come.

Philip Wischmeyer Welcome

Classics Eagles SC Welcomes Philip Wischmeyer As New Club Director

COLUMBUS - November 17, 2025 - Classics Eagles Soccer Club is proud to announce the hiring of Philip Wischmeyer as the new Club Director of Classics Eagles SC.

Philip Wischmeyer is a youth soccer coach and community leader with experience developing programs, supporting coaches, and building positive team environments. A lifelong athlete and U.S. Army National Guard veteran, Phil brings a steady, service-minded approach to leadership.

He has coached and directed youth soccer programs across central Ohio, including serving as President of the Indian Lake Youth Soccer Association, where he helped grow participation and improve organization at the grassroots level. Phil has also coached competitive boys teams with Columbus United SC, focusing on player development, teamwork, and confidence both on and off the field.

Outside of coaching, Phil has worked in business and nonprofit management, gaining experience in communication, operations, and building systems that help people succeed. He’s excited to bring that background to Classics Eagles to help strengthen the club’s culture and support its families and coaches.

CE Night at the Columbus Crew

On Saturday, September 20th, forty CE players had the incredible opportunity to watch the Columbus Crew take on Toronto at Lower.com Field.

As part of our club’s ongoing relationship with the Crew, our players were invited to spend the final 15 minutes of the match watching from field level —up close to the action and atmosphere of a professional game.

It was truly an unforgettable experience for our players. The energy of the crowd, the intensity of the match, and the chance to stand just steps away from their favorite players made the night one they will carry with them for years to come.

We are grateful to the Crew for making this special moment possible and proud to see our players inspired by the highest level of the game right here in Columbus.

Supporting Local Soccer

in the Community

This month, many of our CE teams have had the opportunity to serve as ball kids at various high school and college soccer programs throughout the community.

Not only does this provide valuable support to local teams, but it also gives our players an amazing chance to see the game played at the next level—up close and in person. Watching older players compete with skill, speed, and passion helps inspire our athletes and connects them to the broader soccer community in Columbus.

A big thank you to all the high schools and college programs for welcoming our CE teams and giving them this unforgettable experience!

JUGGLING

Why Juggling is a Game-Changer for Young Soccer Players

One of the simplest yet most effective ways for young players to improve their soccer skills doesn’t require a full field, a team, or even a goal. All it takes is a ball and a little bit of space—because juggling is one of the best ways to build confidence and technical ability.

Why Juggling Matters
Juggling teaches players to stay comfortable with the ball. Each touch helps improve balance, coordination, and control. The more comfortable a player becomes with the ball at their feet (and even their thighs or head), the more natural it feels to handle pressure in a game. Over time, juggling builds the foundation for skills like receiving, dribbling, and striking the ball.

How Parents Can Encourage It
The great thing about juggling is that it’s easy to fit into everyday life. Encourage your child to spend just a few minutes a day juggling in the backyard, driveway, or even indoors with a softer ball. Make it fun by setting small challenges—like “see how many you can get in a row” or “try using only your left foot.” Celebrate personal bests and track their progress over time.

Make It a Challenge
You don’t have to be a soccer expert to get involved. Join in by counting their touches, keeping score, or even trying a family juggling competition. Kids love when parents show interest, and it helps turn practice into a game rather than a chore.

Orthopedic ONE’s sports medicine providers will help to keep our players healthy and on the pitch.

Orthopedic ONE’s sports medicine providers will help to keep our players healthy and on the pitch.

This relationship affords our athletes and families a direct link to the region’s leader in orthopedic and sports medicine care – through access to the Sports Medicine Hotline and sports medicine coverage at designated events. In addition, Orthopedic ONE provides relevant education on preventing and treating
common sports injuries.

When an Orthopedic ONE Athletic Trainer is not on-site, athletes and families can easily connect with the athletic trainer on call through the group’s Sports Medicine Hotline.

Orthopedic ONE athletic trainers receive and respond to phone messages 7 days a week, between the hours of 8am – 7pm. Through the service, families can arrange for a no-cost injury evaluation with a certified athletic trainer at the nearest Orthopedic ONE site. Athletic trainers on call can help families determine the next appropriate steps following an injury, including everything from facilitating an appointment the same week with one of our orthopedic physicians to simply addressing your questions regarding sports medicine care and recovery.

Please note: If an appointment with a physician is warranted, traditional patient visit costs apply.

The Youth Partnerships Program is a partnership program of the Columbus Crew to help grow the game of soccer in the Columbus and Midwest. The program is comprised of youth soccer organizations in Columbus and the Midwest.

The Crew will focus their work with these organizations in the areas of player development and coaching education in addition to providing commercial benefits to these organizations.

TOCA Columbus is a 62,500 square-foot climate-controlled indoor soccer, sports, and fitness center. They offer programs for individuals, teams, or organizations looking to train and play all year round.

Kicking Off - FALL 2025

Scrimmage Weekend

This past weekend, we kicked off the Fall 2025 season with our annual scrimmage weekend at Liberty Park. It’s a great opportunity for our teams to get back on the field, review formations and tactics, and fine-tune their play in preparation for the season ahead.

Professionally Led Sessions

As part of team camp week, each CE team took part in a session led by a local professional coach. These sessions are always a valuable and enjoyable experience for both our players and coaches!

Happy Fall Classics Eagles Families,

I hope everyone is excited for another fantastic year of soccer!

As we get ready to start the Fall 2025 season, I want to take a moment to remind everyone about our expectations for parent behavior on the sidelines.

The energy on the sidelines can be just as intense as the action on the field. Parents play an enormous role in shaping the game-day environment—not only for their own child but for the entire team. The way we behave on the sidelines sends a message to players, referees, coaches, and even the opposing team.

When parents embrace positive sideline behaviors, they help create a space where players feel supported, respected, and excited to grow in the game. Here’s how we can all make sure our sidelines are a place where kids thrive.

1. Cheer for Effort, Not Just Results

Soccer is a game of learning moments, not perfection. Players—especially in the youth game—need encouragement to try new skills, take risks, and bounce back from mistakes.
Instead of shouting instructions or focusing on the score, try phrases like:

“Great hustle!”
“I love how hard you’re working!”
“Keep going—you’ve got this!”

This type of feedback helps build confidence and resilience.

2. Let Coaches Coach

Every time a player hears conflicting instructions—one from a coach and one from a parent—it creates confusion. Our coaches work hard to develop game plans, teach tactics, and adjust strategies. Let’s allow them to guide the players during matches. Parents’ role is to encourage, not instruct.

3. Respect the Officials

Referees are human—just like players and coaches—and they are learning too. Sideline criticism not only sets a poor example for our young athletes, it can also create tension and distraction. A calm, respectful sideline teaches players that sportsmanship is bigger than any single call.

4. Remember: It’s Their Game

Youth soccer is about player development, friendships, and fun. It’s not about winning at all costs. The more ownership we give kids over their experience, the more they’ll grow as players and people. After the game, instead of dissecting every moment, ask:

“Did you have fun?”
“What’s something you learned today?”
“What was your favorite moment?”

5. Model Good Sportsmanship—Always

How we act after a game speaks volumes. Shake hands, thank coaches, and congratulate players from both teams. A simple “Well played!” to an opposing player shows your child what respect looks like in action.

The Big Picture

Our children will remember how they felt during their soccer journey far more than the scores or standings. By being positive, respectful, and supportive, we as parents can help ensure the sidelines are a source of pride and encouragement.

The beautiful game is at its best when it’s played—and cheered for—with joy. Let’s make that our sideline standard every time our kids take the field.
